Today, we are delighted to welcome a total of 151 new employees to Sojitz, which includes 117 career-track employees and 34 administrative-track employees. You are part of the largest class of new recruits in Sojitz history, and I believe this milestone is a testament to the company’s growth. I am pleased to welcome all of you as the next generation of trailblazers who will shape our future. On behalf of all Sojitz Group members, I extend to each of you a warm welcome.
The business climate in which we operate is rapidly changing. The effect of U.S. policies and other factors will further accelerate change and uncertainty in the business environment. Amidst this climate, Sojitz aims to realize its vision for 2030 to become a "general trading company that constantly cultivates new businesses and human capital." We aim to double our corporate value to reach Sojitz’s Next Stage. There is no question that our people are the driving force behind these efforts.
As president, I would like to make three requests of you as you begin your new careers at Sojitz.
First, I want you to think independently, anticipate the future, and be proactive. Our mission as a general trading company is to provide the necessary goods, services, and ideas to places with existing needs when necessary. To achieve this mission, we must anticipate society’s constantly changing needs and then provide functions and value to meet these needs. It is essential that we go beyond simply responding to market demand or requests from partners. It is only when we proactively propose and deliver goods, services, and ideas that exceed expectations that we can be recognized for our value creation. I therefore strongly urge you to approach the businesses and tasks you take on with curiosity in order to proactively review, think, and take action.
Second, I want you to find work that excites and motivates you at Sojitz. As a businessperson, you will spend a significant amount of time working each day. I believe good work is the product of genuine interest and enthusiasm. How will you get business partners to entrust you with value creation? While you will no doubt face challenges ahead, if you love what you do, you can overcome obstacles along the road. This passion will be a driving force for future challenge-taking and learning opportunities and lead to a rewarding work experience. Please bring energy and enthusiasm to your work each day.
Third, I encourage you to build friendships with colleagues both inside and outside the company. There are limits to what one person can achieve alone. Cooperation with your coworkers is essential when advancing any business. Teammates are not just people you get along with, but those with whom you share aspirations. You will support each other, engage in friendly competition, and share your perspectives together. If you are open to listening, clearly express your thoughts and intentions, and earn the trust and empathy of your colleagues, you will gain valuable teammates. As I mentioned earlier, demonstrating positive energy is of great importance as positive individuals naturally attract friends and support.
Finally, I promise that Sojitz will fully support your development to help you realize the infinite possibilities that lie before you. However, please remember that each of you are the main actors. Avoid blame-based thinking and be sure to take responsibility for your actions. What is your vision for yourself and for the company? Please discuss your thoughts on this subject with those around you. I invite everyone to find areas of the company that you identify with and let these interests inspire your own development. As president, I will continue to make every effort to ensure that you feel an affinity for the company and feel proud to be an employee. Sojitz is working towards realizing the next stage of growth, and as new members, I ask that you dedicate your efforts towards creating a company in which you feel pride and connection.
